What this funds

The Great American Outdoors Act (GAOA) (P.L. 116-152), enacted in 2020, allows the Forest Service to repair and upgrade infrastructure and facilities in the national forests and grasslands through the National Parks and Public Land Legacy Restoration Fund. The FY 2027 Budget proposes to reauthorize the Fund to continue the important work of addressing the deferred maintenance backlog at the Forest Service. In Fiscal Year (FY) 2027, the Forest Service proposes $285 million of the reauthorized National Parks and Public Land Legacy Restoration Fund. These levels would be subject to a 5.7 percent sequestration rate. The FY 2026 sequestration pop-up (payback), once returned, would act as the FY 2027 contingency fund. Upon reauthorization, the Forest Service will develop projects in accordance with GAOA requirements and consistent with Administration priorities. Forest Service looks forward to sharing 2027 project information with Congress after the LRF program is reauthorized.
