This figure was parsed from Commerce's FY2027 Congressional Justification, not from a standard budget exhibit. It is approximate and it is not summable with other lines. It is published so you can check it: the citation below names the exact page it was read off. Where a dollar figure matters, verify it there before using it.

The FY2027 President's Budget requests $128.1M for Digital Technology Measurements, within Commerce's Scientific and Technical Research and Services 1/ account. That is down 5.2% on the FY2026 figure of $135.2M, which is the enacted appropriation.

What this funds

NIST is accelerating the development and deployment of digital technologies, such as next-generation communication technologies and information systems that are reliable, usable, interoperable, and secure. Secure, reliable, high-speed wireless communications are critical to the economic and national competitiveness of the United States. Integrated communications and networking technologies dramatically change how consumers, manufacturers, and governments provide and consume information, transact business, and provide and use essential services, shops, and more. The societal demand for connectivity, especially for faster and smarter networks, will continue to require significant advancements in communications technologies. NIST is a central player in the Nation's efforts to modernize the U.S. public safety communications infrastructure and is currently the U.S. government's leader in fundamental and applied research, standards, and government-academia-industry coordination for advanced communications technologies. NIST strengthens trust in information technology and metrology -- the foundations that underpin the digital economy -- through resilient cybersecurity, privacy protection, interoperability, and usability. NIST carries out fundamental and applied research, develops measurement standards, and creates evaluation tools to accurately assess the capabilities and limitations of critical technologies--so that systems, organizations, and users can depend on them with greater confidence. NIST also develops cybersecurity and privacy standards, guidelines, best practices, and other resources to meet the needs of U.S. industry, federal agencies, and the general public. Work in cybersecurity and privacy ranges from longer- term research that anticipates advances in technologies to information that can immediately be put into practice to help organizations address their most pressing challenges. NIST also carries out specific cybersecurity and privacy assignments defined by federal statutes, executive orders, and policies.

Linked contracts are a floor, not a census. Coverage is bounded by how distinctively a program is named and, for performer links, to RDT&E and Procurement — O&M and military construction publish no performers. Budget figures are FY2027 request dollars; contract figures are obligations. The two measure different things and must never be summed together.
