including a net increase of $39,800,000 and an increase of 23 FTE/ 26 positions in program changes and adjustments to base. The nation relies on NWS as a trusted, definitive source of accurate and actionable forecasts and warnings in support of public safety, national security, enhancement of the national economy and positive contributions to Gross Domestic Product. To provide the best possible service to the nation, NWS is transforming to a more nimble, flexible, and mobile world class organization which provides tailored, probabilistic impact-based decision support services (IDSS) at the state, local, and town levels that protect the American public from weather events and hazards. This transformation is critical as the impact of weather and environmental events increases and demand for IDSS from the emergency management community grows. In 2025 alone, the NWS provided an flash flood warnings, and 35,510 fire spot forecasts. The NWS is streamlining and restructuring its entire organization, including headquarters, regional offices, and national centers, to focus on mission critical functions and leverage technology to increase productivity and better serve the American public. In response to increasing need for emergency management partner support and to accelerate transformation efforts, NWS is taking a three- Systems - Modernizing NWS infrastructure by embracing technological advancements such as cloud computing, and leveraging the growing commercial weather enterprise to improve performance, security, and efficiency, while also enabling agility to adapt to future needs. Operations - Reengineering NWS forecast operations, accelerating numerical weather prediction with advanced data assimilation and artificial intelligence, and continuing to embed NWS' forecasters in state and urban Emergency Operation Centers, to meet the demands of a changing nation. Mission Support - Aligning critical mission support workflows and operations within the agency to enable NWS front-line mission fulfillment while working to achieve maximum efficiency, reduce duplicative efforts, increase productivity, and deliver Resilient and reliable infrastructure is the foundation of NWS' transformation efforts. In FY 2027 additional investments will build upon efforts in FY 2025 and 2026 to support meaningful progress towards these goals. Advanced Weather Interactive Processing System (AWIPS) is an interactive computer system that integrates all meteorological and hydrological data with satellite and radar imagery and is the cornerstone of NWS' forecast and warning issuance, essential to the demands of the NWS' 24/7 operations.
