The Fiscal Year (FY) 2027 President's Budget includes $11.7B; 53,199 positions; and 50,398 full-time equivalents (FTEs) for the Transportation Security Administration (TSA). The Budget also advances the privatization of costs and benefits, resulting in a net budget reduction of $52.0M. Through TSA's strategic approaches to efficiency, the FY 2027 Budget's total workforce represents a reduction of 8,385 positions and 9,439 FTE from the FY 2026 Annualized Continuing Resolution. Despite these reductions, TSA will maintain all priority mission-critical positions to ensure operational effectiveness and mission continuity. Department of Homeland Security Transportation Security Administration The agency continues to prioritize strengthening TSA's security infrastructure through strategic investments in advanced screening and identity verification technologies. This includes $225.9M for the procurement, deployment, and maintenance of Computed Tomography (CT) machines to enhance security screening capabilities. Furthermore, $48.1M is requested to replace outdated screening systems with advanced technologies, addressing critical threat gaps, enhancing operational efficiency, and supporting federalized airport checkpoint expansions. Additional investments include $41.0M to accelerate the deployment of Credential Authentication Technology (CAT) systems, advancing full operational capability from FY 2042 to FY 2029; $31.0M for remote screening technology to improve threat detection, increase passenger throughput, and reduce staffing needs; and $30.0M for Transportation Security Equipment (TSE) Connectivity to modernize checkpoint systems through cloud-based, real-time data integration. The Budget also provides $20.0M for e-Gates which will enable secure, accurate, and self-service identity matching, streamline ID checks, double passenger throughput, and reduce person-to-person interactions, thereby improving both security and customer experience. These comprehensive investments, along with funding for portable detection equipment and research into checkpoint automation, ensure TSA remains at the forefront of security innovation and operational readiness while delivering a seamless and secure traveler experience. The Budget also invests $158.6M in Transportation Security Equipment (TSE) sustainment to ensure all fielded TSE continues supporting screening operations and providing screening capacity commensurate with passenger volume to safeguard and facilitate the flow of travel at the Nation's airports. Aviation and transportation hubs continue to be high-value targets for terrorists, with increasingly decentralized and opportunistic modes and methods of attack. The FY 2027 Budget supports and strengthens TSA's commitment to rapidly advance technology solutions and effectively optimize resources to stay ahead of adversaries.
