## What this funds

The Boat Safety Program aims to minimize loss of life, personal injury, property damage, and environmental impact associated with the use of recreational boats. The program directly supports the U.S. Coast Guard's (USCG) Maritime Prevention Program by promoting the safe and enjoyable use of public U.S. waterways. Boat Safety activities include overseeing manufacturer compliance with USCG regulations; making grants to states and national non-profit boating safety organizations; conducting surveys to measure recreational boating activity; continuing the "Boat Responsibly" national outreach and awareness initiative; promulgating safety regulations; and measuring life jacket wear rates, including the effectiveness of voluntary and mandatory efforts to increase life jacket usage. In its role as the designated National Recreational Boating Safety Program Coordinator, the Coast Guard is charged with managing dedicated user fee funding provided from the Sport Fish Restoration and Boating Trust Fund to support the National Recreational Boating Safety Program. In accordance with 16 USC 777c and 46 USC 13107, the Coast Guard is provided set-aside, multi-year funding for Boat Safety administrative expenses.
