This figure was parsed from Homeland Security's FY2027 Congressional Justification, not from a standard budget exhibit. It is approximate and it is not summable with other lines. It is published so you can check it: the citation below names the exact page it was read off. Where a dollar figure matters, verify it there before using it.

The FY2027 President's Budget requests $225.9M for CheckPoint Property Screening System, within Homeland Security's Procurement, Construction, and Improvements account. That is up 542% on the FY2026 figure of $35.2M, which is a continuing-resolution annualized figure, not an enacted appropriation.

What this funds

The Checkpoint Property Screening System (CPSS) program supports checkpoint screening capabilities by addressing identified capability gaps in current property screening technologies' ability to detect new and evolving threats reliably and efficiently, replacing current Advanced Technology X-rays with CT technology which provides 3D images and density information to better detect threats in carry-on baggage. The FY 2027 Budget includes $225.9M to procure and deploy 203 CT systems and for testing, deploying new capability upgrades, and support services, ensuring new capability upgrades, and support services. The FY 2027 procurements will enable TSA to increase security effectiveness with ~1,247 CT systems and enables the program to reach Full Operational Capability (FOC) in FY 2034. 1 Estimated weighted average unit cost assumes that remaining CPSS fleet procurements will be 10 percent Base systems, 45 percent Mid-size systems, and 45 percent Full-size. This assumption for expected percent distributions for future systems by configuration may change based on final qualified system design, specific airport layouts or needs, and airport This funding is critical for TSA to modernize checkpoint screening by replacing outdated Advanced Technology X-ray systems with advanced CT technology, which provides 3D imaging and density information to more reliably detect new and evolving threats in carry-on baggage. Funding for CPSS enables TSA to prevent delays in closing significant capability gaps which would leave civil aviation vulnerable to sophisticated threats and prolong reliance on less effective screening technologies. The improved detection capability will reduce the risk of prohibited items and threats ' Procured a combination of approximately 44 CT systems ' Completed deployment of CT systems procured in FY 2023 ' Continued site remediation and deployment of CPSS Increment 1 systems procured in FY 2024 ' Initiated site remediation for the combination of CT systems to be procured in FY 2025 ' Procure a combination of approximately 32 CT systems ' Complete deployment of CT systems procured in FY 2024 ' Continue site remediation and deployment of CPSS Increment 1 systems procured in FY 2025 ' Initiate site remediation for the combination of CT systems procured in FY 2026 ' Procure and initiate site remediation for approximately 203 CT systems ' Complete deployment of CT systems procured in FY 2025

Linked contracts are a floor, not a census. Coverage is bounded by how distinctively a program is named and, for performer links, to RDT&E and Procurement — O&M and military construction publish no performers. Budget figures are FY2027 request dollars; contract figures are obligations. The two measure different things and must never be summed together.
