## What this funds

This performance measure assesses Law Enforcement/Federal Air Marshal Service (LE/FAMS) coverage on U.S. commercial passenger flights that present high security risks. Federal Air Marshals (FAMs) are armed federal law enforcement officers deployed on passenger flights worldwide to protect passengers and crew from criminal and terrorist threats. High-risk flights are designated as Tier 1 In-flight Security (IFS) operations according to LE/FAMS SOP 200.1, In-Flight Security Mission Planning and Scheduling. Tier 1 IFS operations include Special Mission Coverage (SMC) for flights with high-risk travelers (HRTs) and special event coverage for significant security events. Achieving 100% coverage of high-risk flights is not always possible due to factors such as compressed timelines, international agreements, and coordination among multiple agencies.
