## What this funds

The Innovation Task Force (ITF) initiative conducts R&D activities such as technology demonstrations, prototype testing, and system development in support of passenger, baggage, and intermodal screening functions. The FY 2027 Budget includes funding of $3.0M to support industry collaboration, automated field data collection, demonstration execution, and solution solicitation, which are critical for staying ahead of evolving threats and aligning with key Executive Orders on cybersecurity, passenger experience, and Artificial Intelligence development. Resourcing will fund industry collaboration among TSA, manufacturers, and transportation security stakeholders to demonstrate emerging capabilities. The funding will support data collection and analysis, demonstration execution, and solution solicitation and intake. Data collection and analysis activities will drive new knowledge and inform technology readiness and organizational readiness. Demonstration execution will provide the capacity for planning, executing, and closing out demonstrations, including deployment services and subject matter expert input. Solution solicitation and intake will engage stakeholders and source solutions through various channels, identifying the right technology and providers to support innovative advancements. The initiative accelerates the development and adoption of new technologies by providing industry access to lab and operational environments, ensuring optimal human-machine performance and meeting required standards. This investment is crucial for driving technological, software, automated, ergonomic, environmental, or aesthetic improvements geared to modernized screening and provide advancements in the transportation security ecosystem.
