## What this funds

The Medicare-Eligible Retiree Health Care Fund (MERHCF) Contribution funds the U.S. Coast Guard's (USCG) accrual of its military Medicare- eligible health benefit contribution to the Department of War (DOW). These contributions cover future Medicare-eligible retirees as well as retiree dependents and their potential survivors. The USCG calculates its annual budget estimate by multiplying the projected average force strength by DOW actuary-projected normal cost rates for active duty and reserve personnel.
