## What this funds

Office of the Chief Information Officer Subtotal Discretionary - Appropriation Comparison of Budget Authority and Request The DHS OCIO, in collaboration with the DHS OCIO Council, is responsible for implementing programs necessary to align DHS IT personnel, resources, and assets, including all systems and infrastructure, to support Department-wide missions and activities. OCIO's mission is to provide DHS and its partners with IT services required to lead a unified National effort to prevent and deter terrorist attacks as well as protect against and respond to threats and hazards. In addition, the OCIO supports CAIO organization and all DHS's efforts to integrate AI into its operations and ensure that AI initiatives are managed effectively under the broader IT and data strategy for the Department. OCIO is the lead entity within DHS for biometric identity services. It operates the HART system, which supports DHS Components, the Department of State, Department of Justice, Department of War, State and local entities, the Intelligence Community, and foreign partners by providing accurate and timely biometric identity information to support transportation and border security, immigration enforcement, and enhance National security and public safety. The O&S appropriation funds the technology for storing, comparing, analyzing, and sharing biometric and biographic data, ensuring data security and integrity.
