## What this funds

Funding will provide upgrades to OLC's existing DAMS system that will improve its usability and are critical to ensuring the longevity of this tool. OLC attorneys rely on the DAMS system every day to perform their work of analyzing legal questions brought to OLC by agencies across the Executive Branch, including the White House Counsel's Office and Department leadership. By querying DAMS, OLC attorneys can quickly search for past work product of the office, which is OLC's starting (and sometimes ending) point for its substantive legal work. The classified version of DAMS, known as C-DAMS, will function similarly and with the same impact in terms of resource capabilities. Requested funding is provides base funding for the development and long-term maintenance of OLC's C-DAMS system, which will be a secure classified advice and opinions electronic repository that can be easily navigated. Currently, classified documents are not centrally located in electronic form, nor can they be easily searched. OLC has one of the smallest budgets in the Department of Justice, and because of this, it does not have the base funding that it can dedicate to the DAMS and C-DAMS systems.
