Technical investigations, which evaluate the root causes of hazards and accidents in mines, will be conducted. MSHE will conduct accident prevention inspections in response to specific mine hazards. MSHA will provide compliance assistance to operators to assist in correcting violations. Advancing inspection equipment and technology modernization. Whenever practical, MSHE searches for and procures inspection equipment manufactured in the United States, as outlined in the President's priority "Deliver Results, Buy American." Additionally, MSHE will prioritize information technology and technology modernization, as well as focus on methods for increasing data capabilities to improve and enhance enforcement effectiveness and improve workplace safety and health in the mining industry. FY 2026 MSHE will administer the provisions of the Mine Act, as amended by the MINER Act, to promote compliance with safety and health standards, prevent fatalities, injuries and illnesses, reduce the frequency and severity of accidents, and minimize health hazards in the nation's approximately 950 active coal mines and 11,800 metal and nonmetal mines. MSHE will inspect all active underground mines at least four times per year and all surface mines at least twice a year. Promote the use of innovative technologies to enhance mine safety oversight and operational efficiency. The Agency will explore and deploy emerging solutions such as AI-powered drones to assist with hazard identification, predictive analytics to detect safety trends and prioritize MSHA - 17 MINE SAFETY AND HEALTH ENFORCEMENT inspections, and NexGenIS smart headset technology to improve real-time inspection documentation and situational awareness in the field. These technologies will support inspectors and technical specialists by enabling faster access to information, improving hazard detection capabilities, and enhancing decision-making. Through continued innovation and technology integration, MSHA will strengthen its ability to proactively identify risks, improve inspection effectiveness, and support the Agency's mission of protecting miner safety and health
