The PPI program will work towards updating its value weights to more accurately reflect recent production and marketing patterns. The updated weights will be constructed using the 2022 value of shipments and revenue data from the Economic Census. Since January 2023, (NAICS) shipment and revenue values. All PPIs will be affected by this weight update, Demand (FD-ID) indexes, and inputs to industry indexes. The PPI program will deploy to production a new PPI Sampling System in FY 2027, replacing a legacy system that runs on obsolete and unsupported software. This modernized sampling system will provide essential functionality for PPI users to load and refine sample frames, set up sampling parameters, and select samples. The IPP Sampling Systems will continue conversion of Import and Export Price Index (MXPI) sample production jobs in SAS to a long-term supported software package. The CE program will finalize requirements to implement the second and final phase of a new geographic sample design based on the 2020 Decennial Census. To reflect the latest geographic shifts in the U.S. population, every ten years the CE and CPI programs update their sample of PSUs based on the latest Decennial Census. In FY 2026, the BLS is continuing the production of core data series and is undertaking the following new work in the areas of Prices and Cost of Living: The CPI program will continue transition planning to revise its item-area structure, which will include an updated market basket classification structure, the first major revision to the item structure since 1998, and an updated geographic sample based on the 2020 Decennial Census. This update will affect all portions of the PPI FD-ID system: final demand, intermediate demand by commodity type, and The PPI program will integrate non-traditionally collected data into index calculations as part of a continuous process to increase data quality while reducing costs and respondent burden. The PPI program will augment or replace directly collected survey data with secondary source or administrative data for at least one industry and will continue efforts to identify additional alternative data sources and evaluate their fitness for use. Linked contracts are a floor, not a census. Coverage is bounded by how distinctively a program is named and, for performer links, to RDT&E and Procurement — O&M and military construction publish no performers. Budget figures are FY2027 request dollars; contract figures are obligations. The two measure different things and must never be summed together.
