**FY2027 planned work.** - Continue exploring a wide range of complex materials and devices, including non-linear optical materials, photonics, optoelectronics, metamaterials, cathodes, dielectric and magnetic materials, memristive systems, topological materials, strongly correlated materials, and two-dimensional materials including graphene. - Continue exploration related to generating and controlling quantum states, such as superposition and entanglement, in photonic systems, quantum dots and defects in solids, and ultracold atoms and molecules.

**FY2026 to FY2027 change.** FY 2027 increased compared to FY 2026 by $1.244 million due to increased emphasis on Complex Electronics and Fundamental Quantum Processes. This increase reflects programmatic adjustments to the DAF Science and Technology portfolio for strategic realignment to optimize core research areas and improve resource efficiency. This will result in approximately 5 more grants awarded in Complex Electronics and Fundamental Quantum Processes.
