## Summary

This activity requests $21.1M in FY2027, 22% of project 613003, up 4.9% on FY2026. The R-2A exhibit describes it across FY2026–FY2027, including what the FY2027 money is planned to buy.

## What the FY2027 request buys

**FY2027 planned work.** - Continue designing and analyzing techniques to enable reliable and secure exchange of information and predictable operation of networks and systems, including hardware and software interactions. - Continue to investigate traditional aspects of information assurance with an emphasis on the underlying mathematics of secure-by-design architectures of networked communications and neural information processing. - Continue to analyze, optimize, and design multi-scale networks with resilient features against noise and corruption from difficult environments and adversarial operations, using rigorous mathematical models of information exchange, physical operations, and human-machine interactions. - Continue to develop new computing approaches and algorithms for network-of-network information processing at the speed of warfare and new mathematical approaches for predictive, multi-scale and multi-physics simulations of Department of the Air Force systems and systems-of-systems in realistic environments.

**FY2026 to FY2027 change.** FY 2027 increased compared to FY 2026 by $0.995 million due to minor programmatic adjustments to the DAF Science and Technology portfolio.

## Before the request year

**FY2026 plans — current year.** - Design and analyze techniques to enable reliable and secure exchange of information and predictable operation of networks and systems, including hardware and software interactions. - Investigate traditional aspects of information assurance with an emphasis on the underlying mathematics of secure-by-design architectures of networked communications and neural information processing. - Analyze, optimize, and design multi-scale networks with resilient features against noise and corruption from difficult environments and adversarial operations, using rigorous mathematical models of information exchange, physical operations, and human-machine interactions. - Develop new computing approaches and algorithms for network-of-network information processing at the speed of warfare and new mathematical approaches for predictive, multi-scale and multi-physics simulations of Department of the Air Force systems and systems-of-systems in realistic environments.

| FY2026 | Enacted | 20.1 |
| FY2027 | Request | 21.1 |

> Prior, current and budget year only — an R-2A activity carries no five-year plan. It sums exactly into its project in the request year and not necessarily in any other.
