## What the FY2027 request buys

**FY2027 planned work.** - Integrate and miniaturize neuromodulation and sensing technologies within a single ingestible form factor for closed-loop control. - Further develop, test, and finalize biomarker sensing for identified biomarker(s). - Finalize integration of stimulation modalities (electrical and/or mechanical) to modulate the systemic stress response.

**FY2026 to FY2027 change.** The FY 2027 decrease reflects a transition from a broad developmental phase with a large parameter space to a more focused period of technology refinement.

## Before the request year

**FY2026 plans — current year.** - Initiate the development and encapsulation of stimulation hardware, including electrical, mechanical, or thermal modalities. - Initiate experiments to develop sensing hardware to identify minimum sensitivity and detection limits for chosen biomarkers. - Initiate acute animal subject research to determine appropriate stimulation and sensing ranges within the small intestine.
