## What the FY2027 request buys

**FY2027 planned work.** - Investigate approaches for the development of chemical and biological processes and biologically derived materials to support and sustain the warfighter in all conditions. - Initiate formulation and characterization of materials chemistries for the catalytic separation of domestic agricultural and forestry residues at the laboratory scale. - Initiate formulation and characterization of materials chemistries for the catalytic conversion of domestic agricultural and forestry residues to value-added chemicals at the laboratory scale. - Explore methods that leverage and combine recent advances in catalyst material development to improve the stability, activity, and selectivity of materials for biomass processing at the laboratory scale. - Explore formulation and characterization of materials chemistries for the catalytic separation and conversion of global agricultural and forestry residues to value-added chemicals at the laboratory scale.

**FY2026 to FY2027 change.** The FY 2027 increase reflects program initiation to enhance the DoW's capability to produce critical materials and molecules from biomass sources, including agricultural and forestry residues.
