FY2027 Request
$10.8M
◆ New start in FY2027
HitchAI read

This activity requests $10.8M in FY2027, 71% of project CZ9 — a new start with no prior-year and no current-year money. The R-2A exhibit describes it across FY2027, including what the FY2027 money is planned to buy.

New start

This activity requests $10.8M in FY2027 with no prior-year and no current-year funding. There is no incumbent line to compare it with — it did not exist before this President's Budget.

What the FY2027 request buys

Verbatim from the R-2A exhibit for project CZ9 of PE 0602141A. This is the budget justification's own description of work that has not happened yet — the one thing no other level of the budget carries.

FY2027 planned work

Will investigate processing methods for making robust materials suitable for high temperature environments; develop and validate optimization tools that enable performance improvements through novel processes; deepen understanding and identify relationships between materials processing methods and mechanical properties; advance current capabilities for mixing and processing materials used for propulsion; create analysis tools to accelerate assessment of structures and architectures of complex multi-material systems; conduct computational and experimental studies on Army-relevant, canonical flight geometries; incorporate components such as post-launch propulsion, navigation, and guidance to study the feasibility and effectiveness of low-cost hypersonic weapons.

FY2026 to FY2027 change

This is not a new start effort. FY 2027 funding increase reflects the consolidation of other ongoing efforts within this project from Foundational Hypersonic Weapon Materials and Foundational Hypersonic Weapons Flight and Control to support the creation of Foundational Hypersonics. Funding increase reflects additional research supporting processing methods for materials in high temperature environments and analysis tools to assess structures and architectures of complex multi-material systems.

Money

Three years, and no five-year plan

An R-2A activity publishes the prior year, the current year and the budget year. The FYDP outyears exist at project and program-element level and are deliberately absent here rather than inferred. Estimate types are colored and never summed into one figure.

This activity is 71% of project CZ9's FY2027 request and 4.6% of PE 0602141A's. In the request year the activities under a project sum to it exactly; in the current year they under-cover it in about 9% of cases, so an activity's delta can legitimately exceed its parent's and the two must not be compared row to row.
