What project 622002 buys
This project focuses on electronics and optoelectronics technologies that generate, control, receive, and process electromagnetic spectrum for aerospace sensor and electronic warfare applications. The enabling technologies developed under this project will be used for intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance, electromagnetic warfare, battlespace access, and precision engagement capabilities. The technologies developed include exploratory electronic and optoelectronic devices, components, microsystems, and subsystems. This project also assesses designs, develops, fabricates, and demonstrates the associated technologies for integrating combinations of these component technologies. The project develops and demonstrates significantly smaller size, lower weight, lower cost, lower power dissipation, higher reliability, trustworthiness, and improved performance components. The device and subsystem technology developments under this project are military unique; they are based on Department of the Air Force and other Department of War weapon systems requirements in the areas of radar, communications, electromagnetic warfare, positioning, navigation, timing, and smart weapons.
Project 622002 funding, FY2025–FY2031
Prior years are actuals, the budget year is the request, and the outyears are the FYDP plan. Estimate types are colored and never summed into one figure. Projects carry the full five-year plan; the activities inside them stop at the budget year.
| Fiscal Year | Estimate Type | Amount ($M) |
|---|---|---|
| FY2025 | Actual | 47.8 |
| FY2026 | Enacted | 73.3 |
| FY2027 | Request | 41.9 |
| FY2028 | Outyear | 40.2 |
| FY2029 | Outyear | 43.5 |
| FY2030 | Outyear | 43.9 |
| FY2031 | Outyear | 44.8 |

The R-2A exhibit — the only level of the budget that describes work that has not happened yet. Activities carry the prior, current and budget year only, no five-year plan. 2 of them describe FY2027 work in enough detail to have their own page; the rest are shown here in full. Coverage is partial across the corpus, so count activities, never total them.
-Continue research and development on electronic devices, including efficient radio frequency power amplifiers, power conversion semiconductor technology, and extreme environment applications, with a focus on modeling, characterization, evaluation, and technology demonstrations to facilitate industry transition. -Continue advancing…
Read the FY2027 plan →- Continue research into non-linear devices for tunablity and power scaling relevant to infrared countermeasure development. - Continue development of high power, narrow line width laser sources for advanced sensing and countermeasure applications. - Continue laser component packaging for laser detection and ranging. - Continue…
