## Summary

This activity requests $10.9M in FY2027, 21% of project 0000, down 21% on FY2026. The R-2A exhibit describes it across FY2026–FY2027, including what the FY2027 money is planned to buy.

## What the FY2027 request buys

**FY2027 planned work.** - Continue applied research related to critical Science and Technology (S&T) for Rapid-Reaction Undersea Weapons and Counter-Measures, High-Speed Vehicle Technology, Undersea Warheads Technology, RPG-of-the-Sea and Air-Independent Power and Energy. - Continue applied research to explore additional transition opportunities for technologies developed under the High-Speed Vehicle Technology. - Continue expanding efforts associated with sensing and warhead testing. - Continue basic and applied research in directed energy for undersea applications, and undersea effects for deep sea and seabed warfare. - Continue sensing, target updating, and propulsion technologies for long endurance weapons. - Continue applied research in coordinated networks of weapons and sensors and new weapons concepts. -Initiate applied science for seabed warfare technologies. - Initiate investigation of free-space and fiber contained optical transport solutions and associated technology developments - Initiate measurement and model propagation in highly dynamic environment to enable performance prediction in support of validation of atmospheric prediction models - Initiate investigation of novel window materials and anti-reflection approaches and environmental impacts - Initiate exploration of novel enclosure materials to meet performance while addressing environmental and operational exposure

**FY2026 to FY2027 change.** Funding decrease from FY2026 to FY2027 is due to reduced development across multiple Undersea Weaponry projects, including applied science for seabed warfare technologies.

## Before the request year

**FY2026 plans — current year.** - Continue applied research related to critical Science and Technology (S&T) for Rapid-Reaction Undersea Weapons and Counter-Measures, High-Speed Vehicle Technology, Undersea Warheads Technology, RPG-of-the-Sea and Air-Independent Power and Energy. - Continue applied research to explore additional transition opportunities for technologies developed under the High-Speed Vehicle Technology. - Continue expanding efforts associated with sensing and warhead testing. - Complete related field activities under the Torpedo Field/Lab Experimentation Program. - Initiate basic and applied research in directed energy for undersea applications, and undersea effects for deep sea and seabed warfare. - Initiate sensing, target updating, and propulsion technologies for long endurance weapons. - Initiate applied research in coordinated networks of weapons and sensors and new weapons concepts.

## Funding

| Fiscal Year | Estimate Type | Amount ($M) |
|---|---|---|
| FY2025 | Actual | 14.4 |
| FY2026 | Enacted | 13.7 |
| FY2027 | Request | 10.9 |

> Prior, current and budget year only — an R-2A activity carries no five-year plan. It sums exactly into its project in the request year and not necessarily in any other.
