### Air Platforms

**FY2027 planned work.** - Continue investigation into a suite of technologies leading to more robust shipboard recovery capabilities for air platforms (manned and unmanned). Efforts will center on technologies to enhance training. - Continue studying all phases of kill chain to determine which set of technologies (from detection through tracking to engagement) would provide most tactically effective, cost effective, and implementable solution for self-defense of high value, low density aircraft against next generation advanced threats. - Continue investigation into air platform concepts and technologies leading to greater operational capability for manned and unmanned aircraft, in particular enhanced range and lethality. - Continue investigation and development of concepts delivering revolutionary and scalable launch & recovery system capabilities for uncrewed aerial systems at high volume and operational tempo. - Complete Investigating and maturing system of systems concepts and associated technologies necessary to fully implement manned-unmanned teaming operations. - Complete investigation into processes and techniques to improve production and/or repair of air vehicle structural materials and coatings with emphasis on improvements to corrosion protection and electrical conductivity. - Initiate investigation into processes and techniques to improve production and/or repair of air vehicle structural materials and coatings with emphasis on improvements to methods for rapid inspection, evaluation, and repair of composite structure damage resulting from battle or severe weather.

**FY2026 to FY2027 change.** The funding increase from FY 2026 to FY2027 is due to greater investment in technologies related to improving Unmanned Aerial System (UAS) shipboard operations and tactical utilization. There is also increased investment in technologies leading to maintaining and/or increasing operational availability (AO) of Fleet air assets.
