### Quantum Information Science

**FY2027 planned work.** - Continue research and analysis into designs for network architecture & connectivity and advanced network node operation. To provide a ultra-secure quantum network for contested environments. Activities include continuing the testing the network with a background free state detection to acquire more accurate signal measurements; manipulate trapped-ion with quantum photonic integrated circuit (QPIC) to measure and scale future network development.

**FY2026 to FY2027 change.** FY 2027 funding decreased compared to FY 2026 by $3.812 million due to re-prioritization to meet the nation's future security needs and completion of research towards developing a mobile ad-hoc quantum sensor network, in the area of extreme computing and quantum computing information sciences, advancing development of further reducing Size, Weight, and Power (SWaP) of network node demonstrations, demonstrating quantum information processing on a single chip, quantum photonic integrated circuits for transmission/node operation, designs for network architecture and connectivity.

**FY2026 plans — current year.** - Continue research and analysis into designs for network architecture & connectivity and advanced network node operation to provide an ultra-secure quantum network for contested environments. Activities include testing the network with a background-free state detection to acquire more accurate signal measurements; manipulate trapped-ion with quantum photonic integrated circuit (QPIC) to measure and scale future network development. - Complete in-house research and development in the area of extreme computing and quantum computing information sciences to enhance extreme computing by increasing the speed of processing to revolutionize areas important to the DAF including data analysis & exploitation, cryptography, and materials science; to gain a strategic advantage against peer adversaries. - Complete the research to advance development of further reducing Size, Weight, and Power (SWaP) of network node demonstrations to provide an increase in deployability & scalability for warfighter systems & platforms and improves cost effectiveness. - Complete the demonstration of quantum information processing on a single chip by using developed quantum photonics processor with photon sources to enhance stability by minimizing interference leading to more robust quantum states and provides the potential for more cost-effective quantum information science technologies for the DAF and DoW. - Complete research and development of quantum photonic integrated circuits for transmission/node operation to advance the quantum communication and computation required to develop a robust quantum network and modular quantum computers. - Complete research into designs for network architecture and connectivity to develop a high-fidelity quantum network. - Commence and complete the research towards developing a mobile ad-hoc quantum sensor network to provide substantial increase in sensitivity and precision leading to adaptable, high-performance sensing capabilities in contested environments. Activities include initial research & design of a distributed quantum sensor network for future testing and demonstration activities.
