What the FY2027 request buys

Verbatim from the R-2A exhibit for project 077 of PE 0603000D8Z. This is the budget justification's own description of work that has not happened yet — the one thing no other level of the budget carries.

FY2027 planned work

- Demonstrate End-to-End Machine Learning (ML) Fuze Radar developing field prototypes for testing to show improved proximity fuze performance and increased resistance to countermeasures. - Implement active bypass control to regulate fuel flow and respond to inlet unstart conditions to demonstrate significant increases to solid fuel ramjet range. - Develop dynamic triggering technology takes advantage of on-board sensor information to have the weapon. autonomously optimize the burst point for significantly increased lethality in all flight conditions - Funding increase enables expanding competitive evaluations of dynamic triggering technology via multiple industry demonstrations in artillery, weaponized drones and missile platforms.

FY2026 to FY2027 change

The increase of $2.855 million between FY 2026 and FY 2027 reflects the Department priority to accelerate munitions capabilities including the delivery of lethality enhancing munitions and fuzing technologies demonstrated at the Technology Readiness Level 5+.

Before the request year

FY2025–FY2026: what came before

Prior-year accomplishments and current-year plans from the same exhibit. Context for the FY2027 plan, not a series — an activity partitions its project exactly in the request year, but can under-cover it in earlier years.

FY2026 plans — current year

- Conduct demonstration testing of target tracking proximity fuze RADAR technology that enhances weapon fuzing and timing accuracy against air targets. - Develop and evaluate additively manufactured reserve liquid battery technology demonstrators for enhancing munition power source operation time and reliability. - Complete dynamic testing of low drag mid-body inlets for air breathing propulsion systems that increase missile range, speed and maneuverability. - Conduct program applying warhead dynamic triggering technology in flight test demonstrators for increased target engagement lethality and reduces salvo size.

FY2025 accomplishments

- Complete development and testing of munitions precision placement, initiation and fuzing technologies that enhance lethal effects in small form factor munitions including rockets and weaponized unmanned air vehicles. - Conduct flight validation test of high-resolution height of burst radar using Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO). - Demonstrate munitions miniature and modular thermal battery prototype in representative environment testing.

Three years, and no five-year plan

An R-2A activity publishes the prior year, the current year and the budget year. The FYDP outyears exist at project and program-element level and are deliberately absent here rather than inferred. Estimate types are colored and never summed into one figure.

This activity is 100% of project 077's FY2027 request and 16% of PE 0603000D8Z's. In the request year the activities under a project sum to it exactly; in the current year they under-cover it in about 9% of cases, so an activity's delta can legitimately exceed its parent's and the two must not be compared row to row.
