What the FY2027 request buys

Verbatim from the R-2A exhibit for project UN3 of PE 0603384BP. This is the budget justification's own description of work that has not happened yet — the one thing no other level of the budget carries.

FY2027 planned work

- Continue enhancements of the Chemical and Biological (CB) DevSecOps digital environment by advancing artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) based data analytics and automation to increase the efficiency and rate at which modeling capabilities can be developed and enhanced. - Further enhance the performance of Transport and Dispersion (T&D) models through the continuous integration of threat data, for urban environments, and for hazard releases from novel platforms. - Continue to enhance infectious disease epidemiological modeling and human health effects modeling for disease prediction, forecasting, medical planning, and treatment courses of action. - Enhance Virtual CB mission rehearsal technologies, making them easily configurable, and adding in site-specific and synthetic laboratory environments. - Continue to enhance and automate computer vision technologies to support semi-autonomous and autonomous systems for CB battlespace management and threat mitigation.

FY2026 to FY2027 change

Program/project funding transferred from another funding line. Increase due to funding shift from UN2 CBRN Situational Awareness to UN3 CBRN Situational Awareness to accelerate science and technology efforts for transitions.

Before the request year

FY2025–FY2026: what came before

Prior-year accomplishments and current-year plans from the same exhibit. Context for the FY2027 plan, not a series — an activity partitions its project exactly in the request year, but can under-cover it in earlier years.

FY2026 plans — current year

- Initiate the enhancements of the Chemical and Biological (CB) Development, Security, and Operations (DevSecOps) digital environment by advancing artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) based data analytics and automation to increase the efficiency and rate at which modeling capabilities can be developed and enhanced. - Continue to enhance the performance of Transport and Dispersion (T&D) models through the continuous integration of threat data, for urban environments, and for hazard releases from novel platforms. - Continue work to ingest and store disparate chemical and biological (CB) threat datasets and initiate data handling and transformation efforts to the Chemical and Biological Defense Program (CBDP) enterprise and develop a prototype software to support and inform operational medical decision support. - Continue to enhance infectious disease epidemiological modeling and human health effects modeling for disease prediction, forecasting, medical planning, and treatment courses of action. - Continue to enhance and automate CB situational awareness capabilities for integration into Heads Up Display (HUD) technologies for tactical use.

FY2025 accomplishments

- Completed the development of a Chemical and Biological (CB) Defense Digital Laboratory capability encompassing a Development, Security, and Operations (DevSecOps) environment for end-to-end Artificial Intelligence (AI)/Machine Learning (ML) data analysis, model development and training, and agile software development. - Enhanced the performance of Transport and Dispersion (T&D) models, particularly for urban environments and for hazard release from drone platforms and alternate types of delivery mechanisms. - Continued work to ingest and store disparate chemical and biological threat datasets and advanced analytic development to support the Chemical and Biological Defense Program (CBDP) medical enterprise. - Enhanced comprehensive infectious disease epidemiological modeling applications for disease prediction, forecasting, medical planning and treatment. - Continued to enhance CB situational awareness capabilities for integration into Heads up Display (HUD) technologies for tactical use.

Three years, and no five-year plan

An R-2A activity publishes the prior year, the current year and the budget year. The FYDP outyears exist at project and program-element level and are deliberately absent here rather than inferred. Estimate types are colored and never summed into one figure.

This activity is 14% of project UN3's FY2027 request and 4.1% of PE 0603384BP's. In the request year the activities under a project sum to it exactly; in the current year they under-cover it in about 9% of cases, so an activity's delta can legitimately exceed its parent's and the two must not be compared row to row.
