### Air-to-Air Concept Development

**FY2027 planned work.** In FY 2027, the Air-to-Air Concept Development effort and associated plans & funding transferred within this Program Element to Project 63670A/ Weapon Technology Development, to provide Congress with improved understanding and traceability of the discrete Munitions technology areas in Research, Development, Test & Evaluation (RDT&E), Air Force, Budget Activity (BA) 3.

**FY2026 to FY2027 change.** FY 2027 funding decreased compared to FY2026 by $20.665 million due to the transfer of the Air-to-Air Concept Development effort and associated funding within this Program Element to Project 63670A/ Weapon Technology Development, to provide Congress with improved understanding and traceability of the discrete Munitions technology areas in Research, Development, Test & Evaluation (RDT&E), Air Force, Budget Activity (BA) 3.

**FY2026 plans — current year.** - Continue developing the technology trade space to enable air-to-air weapons with robust capability in the future threat environment, including technologies for efficient propulsion, long-range, high lethality, efficient flight, high agility, miniaturization, as well as cost and risk reduction for both offensive and defensive purposes, focusing on maturing and demonstrating missile component technologies to increase range, loadout, lethality, and agility. - Continue developing and testing propulsion systems to enable solid rocket motor performance at low-cost for significantly increased air-to-air weapon range and load-out. - Continue conducting lethality analysis and ground tests to enable design of small form factor warheads that create tradespace for other weapon components, enabling larger solid rocket motors for increased range. - Continue transitioning advanced target models to other AF and DoW offices to improve joint used target models. - Continue developing preliminary design of air-to-air weapon concepts for sixth- generation platforms, maturing and demonstrating missile component technologies to increase range and agility. - Continue exploring and documenting missile flight dynamics trade space, focusing on maturing and demonstrating missile component technologies to increase range, loadout, lethality, and agility. - Continue conducting wind-tunnel experiments to characterize airframes and validate aerodynamic codes leading to development of highly maneuverable and efficient missiles to counter advanced targets and improve persistence and survivability of future platforms, enabling air-to-air engagements against highly maneuverable and evasive targets to employ fewer weapons per sortie. - Continue performing experiments with small warheads to obtain data for lethality analysis to validate and improve designs, focusing on maturing and demonstrating missile component technology to increase lethality. - Continue planning and executing integrated sub-system experiments, focusing on maturing and demonstrating missile component technologies to increase range, loadout, lethality, and agility. - Continue modeling, simulation, analysis, and digital engineering in support of air-to-air advanced weapon technologies, focusing on maturing and demonstrating missile component technologies to increase range, loadout, lethality, and agility. - Stop conducting ground and arena tests of advanced weapons experimental carriages for sixth-generation weapon concept and prepare for flight worthiness testing, focusing on maturing and demonstrating missile component technologies to increase loadout.

**FY2026 plans — current year.** - Continue technology risk reduction including demonstration and flight testing for weapons concepts responsive to the future threat environment (including hypersonic and high-speed concepts), focusing on maturing and demonstrating advanced propulsion, advanced seekers, alternative navigation, and multi-mission ordnance technologies. - Continue technology risk reduction for hypersonic and high-speed weapon concepts development within a scalable, cloud-enabled modeling and simulation ecosystem in order to upgrade Department of War lethality tools with damage from hypersonic weapons. - Continue developing kinetic payloads, seeker, and fuze technology for hypersonic and high-speed applications, maturing high-speed weapon technologies to increase effectiveness across a diverse target set. - Continue modeling, simulation, analysis, and digital engineering in support of air-to-ground advanced weapon technologies, maturing high-speed weapon technologies to increase effectiveness across a diverse target set.
