### Project 004 — Defense MicroElectronics Activity (DMEA)

The Defense Microelectronics Activity (DMEA) is the DoW’s mission-critical solution provider for microelectronics, ensuring technological superiority in an environment of diminishing domestic manufacturing and increasing global supply chain risks. DMEA delivers trusted, cost-effective microelectronics solutions across the entire system lifecycle, particularly when the commercial industry is unable or unwilling to meet the DoW's unique requirements. This in-house capability is essential for sustaining and modernizing weapon systems, increasing lethality, and countering emerging threats from an unpredictable and unsecured supply chain. To meet rising operational demands, DMEA is executing a strategic expansion of its capabilities. It is scaling munitions support by developing comprehensive Technical Data Packages (TDPs) that allow the Government to "own the operator's manual" for its weapon systems, enabling organic, depot-level maintenance and repair. Furthermore, DMEA is enhancing its Government-Owned, Government-Operated (GOGO) production capability by operationalizing 20,000 sq. ft. of clean room space. This significant enhancement provides an in-house production capability for microelectronics crucial to directed energy, counter-UAS, and hypersonic systems. To complement this, DMEA is also commissioning an additional 10,000 sq. ft. of laboratory space to accelerate the development and testing of next-generation mission-critical solutions. DMEA provides indispensable value by ensuring the operational readiness and cost-effective sustainment of DoW weapon systems. The Services are increasingly struggling with technology insertion and modernization, problems compounded by severe challenges: an unsecured global supply chain, a lack of access to commercial manufacturing for mission-critical parts, and missing technical data that prevents organic repair. DMEA directly addresses these gaps by partnering with industry where possible, and, more critically, by organically developing government-owned solutions. By leveraging its unique capabilities to deliver solutions and secure data rights, DMEA empowers the Services to overcome industry limitations and maintain technological superiority.
