## Summary

This activity requests $14.5M in FY2027, 52% of project 2918, up 35% on FY2026. The R-2A exhibit describes it across FY2026–FY2027, including what the FY2027 money is planned to buy.

## What the FY2027 request buys

**FY2027 planned work.** - Continue projects that demonstrate significant, system engineering, and hardware development to advance technology into a form suitable for demonstration. The goal will be to conduct a multi-year S&T effort to respond to emerging concepts and doctrine. Efforts that will be concluding include a demonstration of semi-automated thermal nonskid application to increase efficiency in application to ships as well as mine countermeasures using autonomous underwater vehicles. Efforts ongoing include the development of a fully integrated system to enable effective, multi-km High Energy Laser target engagement by sensing and correcting for optical distortions produced by turbulence.

**FY2026 to FY2027 change.** Increase to funding from FY 2026 to FY 2027 is due to increased demonstrations of advance technology at the Naval Research Laboratory in support of High Energy Laser sensing into a fully integrated system for correction of optical distortions from turbulence.

## Before the request year

**FY2026 plans — current year.** - Continue projects that demonstrate significant, system engineering, and hardware development to advance technology into a form suitable for demonstration. The goal will be to conduct a multi-year S&T effort to respond to emerging concepts and doctrine. Efforts will include demonstration of semi-automated thermal nonskid application to increase efficiency in application to ships as well as mine countermeasures using autonomous underwater vehicles. New efforts will include development of a fully integrated system to enable effective, multi-km High Energy Laser target engagement by sensing and correcting for optical distortions produced by turbulence.

> Prior, current and budget year only — an R-2A activity carries no five-year plan. It sums exactly into its project in the request year and not necessarily in any other.
