## What project UN5 buys

The Understand System Development & Demonstration (SDD) Project provides the Joint Force the ability to continually receive information about the chemical and biological (CB) situation at a desired time and place by detecting, identifying, and quantifying CB hazards in air, water, or on land, and on personnel, equipment or facilities. These efforts support the ability to conduct early warning (informing protective posture) and employment of rapid detection, identification, and analysis tools needed to address emerging biological threats. Efforts also keep the Joint Force ahead of emerging chemical threats with portable, reduced size, weight, and power, cost detectors to protect general and specialized forces and to enhance operations on the battlefield by providing early warning and field analytics. Medical diagnostic activities develop U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) approved products for the warfighter at the point of care to inform far-forward medical and protection decisions. Establish the initial laboratory reach back capability for Increment I to enable analysis of genetically engineered biological threats. ### 7) Chemical Biological Radiological Nuclear Sensor Integration on Robotic Platforms (CSIRP)

**FY2026 to FY2027 change.** Program/project is entering completion and all activities will be closed. FY 2026 funded activities for completion of Capability Set (CS) 2.0 and CS 3.0 will continue testing activities as scheduled, to complete in FY 2027.

**FY2026 plans — current year.** Complete deployment of chemical and radiological UAS payload and autonomous search and mapping, as part of Capability Set 2.0. Complete testing of standoff detection, cross platform teaming and upgrades to autonomous chemical and biological (CB) mapping in denied GPS operations for UASs, as part of Capability Set 3.0. Complete coordination of demonstrations and test events for additional services and end users. Complete program office management and administration process to include program oversight, resource justification, budgeting and programming, milestone, and schedule tracking.

**FY2025 accomplishments.** Continued repackaging and integration of Standoff detection, cross platform teaming and upgrades to autonomous chemical and biological (CB) mapping in denied Global Positioning System (GPS) operations for UASs, at part of Capability Set 3.0. Initiated command and control integration, sensor integration for backpack portable UASs, and integration of preliminary biological identification on unmanned platforms at part of Capability Set 4.0. Continued coordination of demonstrations and test events for additional services and end users. Continued evaluation of capability to support service development of Concept of Operations (CONOPS).

### 12) Far Forward Biological Sequencing (FFBS) - Increment 1

**FY2026 to FY2027 change.** Program/project transitioned to Production and Deployment Phase. Increment 1 has no FY 2027 BA5 planned due to transition into production and deployment phase.

**FY2026 plans — current year.** Transition into the Production and Deployment phase. Complete Operational Testing (OT) and system verification review, and develop the product support package.

**FY2025 accomplishments.** FFBS Increment 1 completed additional prototype engineering and testing to account for COTS sequencer hardware component product obsolescence. FFBS Increment 1 completed Engineering and Manufacturing Development (EMD) testing on prototypes and prepared for transition into the Production and Deployment phase. Finally, FFBS updated security classification modification, conducted lysis testing, and procured additional consumables to support additional early user demonstrations and evaluations.

### 14) Mobile Field Kit (MFK)

**FY2026 to FY2027 change.** Program/project funding transferred to another funding line. Funding and program efforts transition to CBRN Support to Command and Control (CSC2) under Project Understand/UN7 starting in FY 2027.

**FY2026 plans — current year.** Begin transition of functions and features from MFK to CBRN Support to Command and Control (CSC2). Continue to deliver operational capability to the National Guard Bureau.

**FY2025 accomplishments.** Completed physical Military Standard (MIL-STD) and end-to-end (integration into USSOCOM equipment) test and evaluation activities. Completed multiple developmental and operational assessments.

### 25) Joint Biological Tactical Detection System (JBTDS)

**FY2025 accomplishments.** Conducted Multi-Service Operational Test & Evaluation (MOT&E) and development test/operational test activities in preparation for Full Rate Production (FRP) decision.
