What the FY2027 request buys

Verbatim from the R-2A exhibit for project BY8 of PE 0607148A. This is the budget justification's own description of work that has not happened yet — the one thing no other level of the budget carries.

FY2027 planned work

FY 2027 research, development, test and evaluation (RDT&E) funds in the amount of $54.043 million supports the continued enhancement of system survivability and the development of advanced electronic protection software techniques for DDREX Capability Sets #3 and #4. This funding enables developmental electronic protection software demonstrations on the tactical hardware associated with DDREX Capability Sets #3 and #4.

FY2026 to FY2027 change

FY 2027 funding increase due to the ramp of up of software development for advanced electronic protection techniques and additional integration work required for DDREX Capability Sets #3 and #4.

Before the request year

FY2025–FY2026: what came before

Prior-year accomplishments and current-year plans from the same exhibit. Context for the FY2027 plan, not a series — an activity partitions its project exactly in the request year, but can under-cover it in earlier years.

FY2026 plans — current year

FY 2026 funding of $18.086 million supports the continuation of the survivability improvement effort and enhanced electronic protection software techniques for the design and development of DDREX Capability Sets #3 and #4.

FY2025 accomplishments

FY 2025 research, development, test and evaluation (RDT&E) funds in the amount of $16.496 million supports the start of the survivability improvement effort for the design and development of DDREX Capability Sets #3 and #4. This will require the development and integration of an additional high performance data processing board to the DDREX's processor assembly.

Three years, and no five-year plan

An R-2A activity publishes the prior year, the current year and the budget year. The FYDP outyears exist at project and program-element level and are deliberately absent here rather than inferred. Estimate types are colored and never summed into one figure.

This activity is 59% of project BY8's FY2027 request and 59% of PE 0607148A's. In the request year the activities under a project sum to it exactly; in the current year they under-cover it in about 9% of cases, so an activity's delta can legitimately exceed its parent's and the two must not be compared row to row.
