Engineering & Manufacturing Development (EMD) to enable the B-52 to launch weapons currently in development. This may include hypersonic weapons too large for internal carriage capacity or other classified efforts underway. FY2027 plans begin acquisition activities to field a new heavy hypersonic weapon currently in development. Program activities will include safe separation of the weapons from external pylons (i.e. AWWP), necessary SIL work to ensure system safety protocols are in place, Universal Armament Interface updates, crew working groups to ensure full capabilities of the missiles can be used in an operational environment at operational timelines, incorporating classified capabilities of the latest variants onto the B-52, and other various required programmatic activities that allows weapons employment. Contracts are already established to begin work on integrating new weapons on the B-52.
