What the FY2027 request buys

Verbatim from the R-2A exhibit for project 2124 of PE 0204571N. This is the budget justification's own description of work that has not happened yet — the one thing no other level of the budget carries.

FY2027 planned work

Funds are allocated to continue the development and integration of advanced training capabilities, including the enhancement of data collection and fusion for semi-automated performance measurement and debriefing in Live, Virtual, and Constructive (LVC) training environments, and the transition of Virtual/Augmented/Mixed Reality display technologies for T-6 and T-45 platforms. Furthermore, resources will provide sustained analytical and developmental support for emergent programs of record in areas such as LVC, cross-domain solutions, integrated warfare, warfighter performance assessment, and aviator selection. To accelerate training pipeline throughput, investment will continue in artificial intelligence training systems alongside the critical design, development, integration, and testing of the Joint Simulation Environment (JSE) to deliver an advanced LVC training capability for the Naval Aviation Enterprise.

FY2026 to FY2027 change

Decrease of 0.223 from FY 2026 to FY 2027 due to reduction in support.

Before the request year

FY2026: the year under way

Prior-year accomplishments and current-year plans from the same exhibit. Context for the FY2027 plan, not a series — an activity partitions its project exactly in the request year, but can under-cover it in earlier years.

FY2026 plans — current year

Continue development of data collection and fusion capability to support intelligent, semi-automated performance measurement and debrief capability in support of LVC training environments. Transition of T-6/TH-57/T-45 Virtual/Augmented/Mixed Reality display technologies. Continue analytical and developmental support for emergent programs of record in LVC, cross domain solution, integrated warfare, acoustic simulation environments, warfighter performance assessment and training analytics, threat system enhancements, aviator selection testing, and sensor/visualization modeling. Continue development of artificial intelligence training systems to augment aviation training pipelines and accelerate training pipeline throughput. Design, development, integration, and testing of the Joint Simulation Environment (JSE) to support Advanced LVC Training in the Naval Aviation Enterprise.

Three years, and no five-year plan

An R-2A activity publishes the prior year, the current year and the budget year. The FYDP outyears exist at project and program-element level and are deliberately absent here rather than inferred. Estimate types are colored and never summed into one figure.

This activity is 100% of project 2124's FY2027 request and 10% of PE 0204571N's. In the request year the activities under a project sum to it exactly; in the current year they under-cover it in about 9% of cases, so an activity's delta can legitimately exceed its parent's and the two must not be compared row to row.
