What the FY2027 request buys

Verbatim from the R-2A exhibit for project BG7 of PE 0603462A. This is the budget justification's own description of work that has not happened yet — the one thing no other level of the budget carries.

FY2027 planned work

Will further develop integrated collaborative defense system design based on data from previous component-level demonstrations; mature and demonstrate threat and effector sensing and tracking modalities and optimize associated hardware and software; optimize effector and payload hardware for required terminal effects performance; demonstrate physical installation onto host ground platforms or representative structures, and optimize integration aspects to minimize size, weight, and power burdens; demonstrate live defeat of multiple threat classes; develop hardware for subsequent capability enhancements and demonstrations.

FY2026 to FY2027 change

Increase reflects natural progression of the technology development, moving from system design and component-level work to system build and demonstration.

Before the request year

FY2026: the year under way

Prior-year accomplishments and current-year plans from the same exhibit. Context for the FY2027 plan, not a series — an activity partitions its project exactly in the request year, but can under-cover it in earlier years.

FY2026 plans — current year

Will leverage prior research from 0602145A, Next Generation Combat Vehicle Technology / BG6 - Collaborative Defense to mature physical, electrical, and software designs, and package the selected individual component technologies that comprise the system in preparation for environmental, durability and performance validation; provide updates to the system architecture design model, control software, as well as the physical system integration design to prepare for full-system sample build.

Three years, and no five-year plan

An R-2A activity publishes the prior year, the current year and the budget year. The FYDP outyears exist at project and program-element level and are deliberately absent here rather than inferred. Estimate types are colored and never summed into one figure.

This activity is 56% of project BG7's FY2027 request and 22% of PE 0603462A's. In the request year the activities under a project sum to it exactly; in the current year they under-cover it in about 9% of cases, so an activity's delta can legitimately exceed its parent's and the two must not be compared row to row.
