Next Generation Multi-Mission Radar Capabilities

FY2027 Request
$48.8M
◆ New start in FY2027
HitchAI read

This activity requests $48.8M in FY2027, 97% of project DB3 — a new start with no prior-year and no current-year money. The R-2A exhibit describes it across FY2027, including what the FY2027 money is planned to buy.

New start

This activity requests $48.8M in FY2027 with no prior-year and no current-year funding. There is no incumbent line to compare it with — it did not exist before this President's Budget.

What the FY2027 request buys

Verbatim from the R-2A exhibit for project DB3 of PE 0603466A. This is the budget justification's own description of work that has not happened yet — the one thing no other level of the budget carries.

FY2027 planned work

Will mature concepts, designs and development of radar sensor technologies to enable multi-mission capability that addresses advanced and emerging threats; establish an integration team to mature, optimize and validate system performance to reduce cost and technical risk using modeling and simulation, virtual test beds, as well as interaction and feedback with the user and industry community; optimize and validate advanced radar modes through digital characterization; characterize and validate Radio Frequency (RF) transceiver solutions to support a multi-mission scaled architecture; integrate and demonstrate digital prototypes in soldier touchpoints and relevant environments to obtain early user validation of capability and incorporate design changes resulting from user input; characterize and validate multiple industry concepts, solutions and system demonstrators to support optimization of requirements and performance to accelerate delivery of multi-mission radar capability.

FY2026 to FY2027 change

Funding increase reflects acceleration of next generation multi-mission fires radar development resulting in optimized performance with increased flexibility and reduced logistics burden and cost.

Money

Three years, and no five-year plan

An R-2A activity publishes the prior year, the current year and the budget year. The FYDP outyears exist at project and program-element level and are deliberately absent here rather than inferred. Estimate types are colored and never summed into one figure.

This activity is 97% of project DB3's FY2027 request and 76% of PE 0603466A's. In the request year the activities under a project sum to it exactly; in the current year they under-cover it in about 9% of cases, so an activity's delta can legitimately exceed its parent's and the two must not be compared row to row.
