What the FY2027 request buys
Verbatim from the R-2A exhibit for project DAT-02 of PE 0603467E. This is the budget justification's own description of work that has not happened yet — the one thing no other level of the budget carries.
- Review modeling and sensor designs for a novel sensor system. - Conduct critical design review on potential sensor system design. - Validate subsystem performance through laboratory and operational testing. - Develop hardware and processing prototypes for data collection, analysis, and verification. - Generate scaled models of target platforms and radar measurement system. - Develop and deploy radar measurement system to test ranges for platform measurements. - Assess algorithms for accuracy and computational power required. - Assess payload design trade study for power consumption and revisit times. - Integrate next generation technologies for capability capture and relocation technologies. - Investigate different approaches for swarm guidance algorithms. - Demonstrate swarm guidance algorithms in a constructive environment. - Conduct size, weight, and power tradeoffs study to enable system endurance. - Investigate opportunities for countermeasures to specific sensing systems.
The FY 2027 increase reflects studies and concepts initiations including, but not limited to, the advancement of new technologies to model and design novel sensor systems, and to support development of swarm guidance algorithms, radar measurement systems, capability capture and relocation technologies and countermeasures.
FY2026: the year under way
Prior-year accomplishments and current-year plans from the same exhibit. Context for the FY2027 plan, not a series — an activity partitions its project exactly in the request year, but can under-cover it in earlier years.
- Conduct data collection to support concept development for imaging across the frequency spectrum. - Generate preliminary low-resolution and high-resolution images for further study. - Identify system models and software to integrate models with a sensor suite. - Develop robust sensor to test functionality and survivability in austere environments. - Demonstrate tactical use-case scenarios. - Investigate algorithms and modeling simulations for delivery. - Examine robust sensors to test functionality and survivability in austere environments. - Identify modeling and simulation approaches to initiate advancement of systems to achieve non-kinetic, radio frequency effects. - Quantify mission operational impact of photonically assisted wideband spatial-spectral processors.
Three years, and no five-year plan
An R-2A activity publishes the prior year, the current year and the budget year. The FYDP outyears exist at project and program-element level and are deliberately absent here rather than inferred. Estimate types are colored and never summed into one figure.
| Fiscal Year | Estimate Type | Amount ($M) |
|---|---|---|
| FY2026 | Enacted | 35.6 |
| FY2027 | Request | 103.1 |
This activity is 81% of project DAT-02's FY2027 request and 6.6% of PE 0603467E's. In the request year the activities under a project sum to it exactly; in the current year they under-cover it in about 9% of cases, so an activity's delta can legitimately exceed its parent's and the two must not be compared row to row.
