What the FY2027 request buys
Verbatim from the R-2A exhibit for project 5010 of PE 0603563N. This is the budget justification's own description of work that has not happened yet — the one thing no other level of the budget carries.
Continue design maturation efforts to improve design definition/maturity, cost certainty, & affordability. Continue development of required acquisition documentation & associated tailoring to support Milestone B/C and test planning. Conduct Milestone B/C. Revise DD&C RFP in preparation for release and award of lead and follow ships to shipbuilder.
Increase of $90.092 million from FY 2026 to FY 2027 reflects acceleration of procurement of both lead and follow ship DD&C shifting left to FY 2027. Additional RDT&E,N is required to continue design maturation efforts to improve design definition/maturity, cost certainty, & affordability including interfacing with industry to integrate Vendor Furnished Information (VFI) into the design. Additional funding required to complete acquisition documentation to conduct Milestone B/C, revise, release, & award DD&C RFP for both ships as well as further test planning.
Three years, and no five-year plan
An R-2A activity publishes the prior year, the current year and the budget year. The FYDP outyears exist at project and program-element level and are deliberately absent here rather than inferred. Estimate types are colored and never summed into one figure.
| Fiscal Year | Estimate Type | Amount ($M) |
|---|---|---|
| FY2025 | Actual | 0.0 |
| FY2026 | Enacted | 0.0 |
| FY2027 | Request | 90.1 |
This activity is 100% of project 5010's FY2027 request and 25% of PE 0603563N's. In the request year the activities under a project sum to it exactly; in the current year they under-cover it in about 9% of cases, so an activity's delta can legitimately exceed its parent's and the two must not be compared row to row.
