Continue PFAS treatment technology validation and assess technology combinations, particularly in support of stormwater treatment. Advance environmental security technologies to improve compliance and reduce regulatory burdens. Demonstrate and/ or validate chemical resilience technologies including saltwater compatible film forming foams (F3) for shipboard firefighting of fuel fires, alternative technology prototypes for demilitarization of energetics, PFAS-free processing of explosives to produce similar energetic particles in pilot scale production, and corrosion mitigation protocols for additively manufactured steels. Live site and test bed demonstrations will continue in support of underwater UXO remediation.
The FY 2026 to FY 2027 increase of $6.783 million a programmed increase for PFAS chemical resiliency in weapons systems and platforms and development of alternative technology for demilitarization of energetics.

Advance environmental security technologies to improve compliance and reduce regulatory burdens. Demonstrate chemical resilience technologies including antimicrobial and anti-biofouling coatings, isocyanate-free fighter jet coatings, chromium-free thermal spray for F-35 landing pads, ship water disinfection alternatives, non-PFAS explosive binders, and energetic destruction technologies. Live site and test bed demonstrations will continue in support of underwater UXO remediation.
Demonstrate PFAS destruction technologies for various media. Initiate engineering tests and live site demonstrations of munitions detection technologies. Demonstrate environmental DNA for rapid species surveys. Validate pollution prevention technologies including PFAS-free corrosion control methods, depainting alternatives, sustainable energetics processing, and PFAS-free firefighting formulations per 2020 NDAA requirements.
