Joint Munitions Component Prototyping
The Joint Munitions Component Prototyping project will demonstrate and prototype advanced munitions component technologies related to lethality, range, speed, survivability, application of artificial intelligence and machine learning in munitions, advanced communication and collective behaviors, and other next-generation munition attributes. Advancing game-changing technologies from Technology Readiness Level (TRL) 5-6 to TRL 6-7 reduces technology integration/transition risk to the Services and Program Offices by validating the tactical and operational applications and benefits of new component technology. As a new start in FY 2027, the project will focus on warhead and fusing technologies, including those employing advanced energetics, before expanding into other areas in later years. This project will continue technology developments funded under OSW and Service science and technology lines to facilitate more efficient and effective technology transition while delivering technology overmatch to the Joint Force in accordance with Department strategic guidance.
FY2027 planned work • Development and fabrication of munition lethality components and sub-components. • Integration and demonstration of component prototypes for munitions.
FY2026 to FY2027 change Addition of $1.383 million to develop component prototyping plans and test articles.
FY2027 planned work In FY 2027, JLF will continue to improve lethality testing, data, and M&S capabilities to support JTCG/ME operational tools. Anticipated FY 2027 critical areas include: • Test point detonating and proximity fusing to conduct a comparative analysis on resulting fragmentation characterization • Establish Joint probability of component damage given hit (Pcd|h) repository and development processes • Execute non-kinetic (HEL, HPM, or Cyber) testing and M&S improvements • Develop testing databases to support validation of lethality M&S • Transition gains in TBI prediction into Health Hazard Assessments, Danger Close (Risk Estimates Distances) and Collateral Damage Estimation (CDE) tools • Develop…
