What project 9999 buys

(CA53) The details of Program Element 0604280N, Project CA53 for Digital High Frequency Communication Modernization are classified SECRET//NOFORN and are submitted annually to Congress in the classified budget justification books. (CA54) Integration of Global Broadcast Services (GBS) Capabilities extends GBS secure file/video capability to commercial Satellite Communications (SATCOM) constellations. This enables the development of a new secure On Demand portal at the GBS ground segment and the shipboard integration with Satellite Terminal (transportable) Non-Geostationary (STtNG). (CA55) This effort supports Radio Energies Transformed into Numerous Apertures (RETINA) development of Advanced Radio Frequency (RF)/photonics direct conversion systems. Funding will advance the development of a versatile Luneburg Lens antenna system, enhancing satellite communication capabilities for the fleet across Low Earth Orbit (LEO), Medium Earth Orbit (MEO) and Geostationary Earth Orbit (GEO) satellite orbits, with an initial focus on the X-band. The project's core innovation lies in the direct conversion of RF energy to photons, a critical step that dramatically simplifies signal routing and reduces the antenna's overall size. This new RF/photonic interconnect will enable more than 600 phased array elements to establish and maintain a crucial X-Band communication link. (CA56) The details of Program Element 0604280N, Project CA56 for Modern HF Communications Relay Stations are classified SECRET//NOFORN and are submitted annually to Congress in the classified budget justification books. (CA57) The development of Network Tactical Common Data Link (NTCDL) - Phased Array Antenna Qualification will produce a fully integrated and modernized prototype configuration that serves as a foundational pathfinder for a future NTCDL system. This prototype will drive down costs for future procurements, and enable more streamlined, lower-cost shipboard installations, supporting scalable NTCDL evolution with improved long-term affordability.
