The Office of Net Assessment develops and coordinates analyses that examine the standing trends and future prospects of U.S. and other military capabilities and military potential. The net assessments address near and long-term problems and opportunities for the U.S. military forces to help counter technological advantages of potential U.S. adversaries. These efforts will pursue research to analyze the future security environment.

Mission & acquisition strategy

The Office of Net Assessment (ONA) is reestablished to provide the Secretary of War, Deputy Secretary of War, and other senior DoW leaders with independent, long-term assessments of fundamental security issues. The ONA is administratively realigned under the Director of Administration and Management (DA&M), while the Deputy Secretary of War provides direct functional management of the Director of Net Assessment (DNA). The office identifies emerging threats, technologies, and geopolitical trends, examining the comparative military capabilities and potential of the U.S. and its adversaries.
