The AI Studio shapes research, requirements, and realization to scale AI and autonomy within the DAF. Studio members identify critical bottlenecks in DAF operations and convert them into well-defined technical problems. Those problems are then solved through pioneering research in AI, autonomy, and efficient computing or through new applications of existing, state-of-the-art commercial technologies. The Studio partners with industry and academia to rapidly prototype, test, and field solutions that deliver measurable strategic advantages. The Studio is the Air Force Pathfinder's vanguard project in deploying in connecting its network of bespoke talent to solve the Air Force's technical problems. It's manning and talent development program, which helps to create PhD and Master's-level engineering expertise, is managed by and through the Pathfinder program. This program is in Budget Activity 6, RDT&E Management Support because this budget activity includes research, development, test and evaluation efforts and funds to sustain and/or modernize the installations or operations required for general research, development, test and evaluation.

FY2027 planned work In FY27, we will lay the technical and organizational foundation for this program across three integrated thrusts: physics-based generative design, FM-enabled autonomy, and efficient AI computing. 1. Physics-Based Generative Design (PBML-GD): Develop model hierarchies to balance fidelity and efficiency in aerodynamic, structural, and signature simulations. Launch efforts to embed governing physics directly into ML models to ensure design outputs are operationally relevant. Begin construction of a generative design language model framework to translate mission-level requirements into candidate air vehicle concepts. 2. Generative AI for Autonomy: Initiate design of FM-backed autonomy stacks…
