What the FY2027 request buys

Verbatim from the R-2A exhibit for project 633834 of PE 1206616SF. This is the budget justification's own description of work that has not happened yet — the one thing no other level of the budget carries.

FY2027 planned work

Continue: -Engagement with cislunar space community to coordinate test events, collect available data, and drive a whole of government approach to cislunar situational awareness. -AI&T of the satellite system. Complete: -Delivery of the Satellite Bus for system integration and test. -Cislunar data analysis software and cloud-based ground system improving on existing system architectures and leveraging commercial networks for command and control of space vehicle. Commence: - Satellite operations support in preparation for first of a kind cislunar space situational awareness mission.

FY2026 to FY2027 change

FY2027 increased compared to FY2026 by $0.743 million due to increased system integration and test activities. FY 2027 funding was realigned from project 63682J to support requirements as described above.

Before the request year

FY2026: the year under way

Prior-year accomplishments and current-year plans from the same exhibit. Context for the FY2027 plan, not a series — an activity partitions its project exactly in the request year, but can under-cover it in earlier years.

FY2026 plans — current year

Continue: - Procurement of remaining payload and spacecraft materials required to complete Assembly, Integration and Test (AI&T). - AI&T of the satellite system. - Development of cislunar data analysis software and cloud-based ground system improving on existing system architectures and leveraging commercial networks for command and control of space vehicle. - Engagement with cislunar space community to coordinate test events, collect available data, and drive a whole of government approach to cislunar situational awareness. Complete: - Remaining open design work for a cislunar space-based space situational awareness sensor and satellite system.

Three years, and no five-year plan

An R-2A activity publishes the prior year, the current year and the budget year. The FYDP outyears exist at project and program-element level and are deliberately absent here rather than inferred. Estimate types are colored and never summed into one figure.

This activity is 29% of project 633834's FY2027 request and 11% of PE 1206616SF's. In the request year the activities under a project sum to it exactly; in the current year they under-cover it in about 9% of cases, so an activity's delta can legitimately exceed its parent's and the two must not be compared row to row.
