FY2027 Request
$30.1M
◆ New start in FY2027
HitchAI read

This activity requests $30.1M in FY2027, 20% of project WP-01 — a new start with no prior-year and no current-year money. The R-2A exhibit describes it across FY2027, including what the FY2027 money is planned to buy.

New start

This activity requests $30.1M in FY2027 with no prior-year and no current-year funding. There is no incumbent line to compare it with — it did not exist before this President's Budget.

What the FY2027 request buys

Verbatim from the R-2A exhibit for project WP-01 of PE 0602024E. This is the budget justification's own description of work that has not happened yet — the one thing no other level of the budget carries.

FY2027 planned work

- Initiate technology development for the integration of dynamic and responsive biological organisms or bio-inspired molecules into composite materials. - Investigate approaches for the development of biological processes and biologically derived materials to support and sustain the warfighter in austere conditions. - Explore methods that leverage and combine recent advances in biological sensors, interventions, and technologies to develop novel platforms for threat detection and analysis, in both humans and agricultural crops. - Investigate the ability of biological molecules and processes to perform calculations to enable highly adaptable and efficient computational systems and sensors. - Initiate technology development for biohybrid systems capable of enhanced threat sensing, protection, and remediation.

FY2026 to FY2027 change

The FY 2027 increase reflects studies and concepts initiations including, but not limited to, applied research in biologically based computational systems and sensors, and novel biological sensors for threat detection and analysis.

Three years, and no five-year plan

An R-2A activity publishes the prior year, the current year and the budget year. The FYDP outyears exist at project and program-element level and are deliberately absent here rather than inferred. Estimate types are colored and never summed into one figure.

This activity is 20% of project WP-01's FY2027 request and 8.3% of PE 0602024E's. In the request year the activities under a project sum to it exactly; in the current year they under-cover it in about 9% of cases, so an activity's delta can legitimately exceed its parent's and the two must not be compared row to row.
