Mission & acquisition strategy

This Program Element (PE) provides funding for the development of medical materiel during the early system integration phase of the System Development and Demonstration stage within the acquisition life cycle, utilizing 6.4 Advanced Component Development and Prototype funding. These efforts are critical to advancing medical technologies that address the Army's future force requirements and operational readiness.

The Acquisition Strategy is designed to support the development, testing, and evaluation of advanced medical technologies and systems that are approaching the transition from research and development to operational use. FY2026 to FY2027 change Increase from FY26 to FY27 will enhance Advanced Development efforts for Blast Overpressure Sensor System (BOSS): Enhancing Soldier Health Monitoring.

FY2026 plans — current year Mobile Medical Platforms and Shelters (formerly Division Medical Mobile Shelter (DMMS)): Continue development support and analysis of Medical Device component integration into Mobile platforms and shelters. Blast Overpressure Sensor System (BOSS): Progress in developing a sensing capability to collect blast overpressure (BOP) data from soldiers. Monitoring capability that will collect, integrate, store, and transmit BOP exposure data within the Army enterprise and DoW information system databases to provide a longitudinal record of BOP exposures to aide in understanding and tracking potential long-term health consequences of repeated BOP exposure.

FY2025 accomplishments Division Medical Mobile Shelter (DMMS): Begin evaluating commercial infrastructure equipment and development of DMMS. Blast Overpressure Sensor System (BOSS): develop a sensing capability to collect blast overpressure (BOP) data from soldiers.

The BOSS effort requires more in-depth tactical network integration in order to transfer data from the sensor to the data repository and eventually to the medical record.

What project 808 buys

Project funds will applied to strategically address future force requirements identified in concept documents and organizational structures. PM SMD leverages this funding to develop and integrate advanced medical solutions that enhance Warfighter survivability and operational effectiveness in support of Capability Program Executive Ground (Soldier Systems). These efforts ensure the Army remains equipped with cutting-edge medical technologies to meet the demands of modern and future combat environments. This Program Element represents a vital investment in the Army's medical modernization strategy, enabling the development and fielding of innovative medical solutions that align with the Army's readiness priorities and sustain the health and effectiveness of the force. These funds have transitioned from T2COM (AFC) into ASA(ALT) starting FY26. Requesting project 808 / DoD Drug & Vacc Ad funding to be merged into 836 / Field Medical Systems Advanced Development. This will benefit the development, testing, and evaluation of advanced medical technologies and systems that are nearing the transition from research and development to operational use. Our primary focus of utilizing this 6.4 funding is on refining prototypes, conducting system integration, and ensuring that medical solutions are ready for field deployment for US Army Forces.
