What the FY2027 request buys

Verbatim from the R-2A exhibit for project 2077 of PE 0604756N. This is the budget justification's own description of work that has not happened yet — the one thing no other level of the budget carries.

FY2027 planned work

Acquire C-UAS systems to support fielding on two carrier strike groups consisting of four to five deploying ships each and one expeditionary strike group consisting of three deploying ships for fielding in FY 2027 and 2028. Fielding the C-UAS prototype systems that were acquired in FY 2026. C-UAS engineering support, development and demonstration of new capabilities to pace the threat.

FY2026 to FY2027 change

FY 2026 for C-UAS includes $200.000 million of mandatory (reconciliation) for a total of $239.407 million. The cost decrease ($10.967 million) from FY 2026 to FY 2027 is due to tasking in FY 2026 to execute a demonstration on expeditionary strike group for the first time.

Before the request year

FY2026: the year under way

Prior-year accomplishments and current-year plans from the same exhibit. Context for the FY2027 plan, not a series — an activity partitions its project exactly in the request year, but can under-cover it in earlier years.

FY2026 plans — current year

Acquire C-UAS prototype systems to support fielding on three carrier strike groups consisting of twelve to fifteen deploying ships and one expeditionary strike group consisting of three deploying ships for fielding in FY2026 and FY2027. Perform demonstration of C-UAS on expeditionary strike group. FY 2026 for C-UAS includes $39.407 million discretionary and $200.000 million of mandatory (reconciliation) for a total of $239.407 million. The $200.000 million mandatory funding enables the acquisition of the prototype systems identified through the testing

Three years, and no five-year plan

An R-2A activity publishes the prior year, the current year and the budget year. The FYDP outyears exist at project and program-element level and are deliberately absent here rather than inferred. Estimate types are colored and never summed into one figure.

This activity is 100% of project 2077's FY2027 request and 77% of PE 0604756N's. In the request year the activities under a project sum to it exactly; in the current year they under-cover it in about 9% of cases, so an activity's delta can legitimately exceed its parent's and the two must not be compared row to row.
