Commercial Capabilities Integration and Transition (CCIT)

Commercial Capabilities Integration & Transition uses the Small Business Innovation Research process to discover, prototype, and rapidly field commercial solutions to solve combatant commander and warfighter requirements. Commercial Capabilities Integration & Transition partners with Office of the Secretary of War (OSW) in rapid prototyping and experimentation activities. Additionally, Commercial Capabilities Integration & Transition partners with various agencies to include Air Force Research Laboratory, Defense Innovation Unit, OSW R&E, Rapid Defense Experimentation Reserve, and Defense Innovation Accelerator, Federally Funded Research and Development Centers, National Nuclear Security Administration and others to identify critical science and technology capabilities. Furthermore, Commercial Capabilities Integration & Transition leverages the U.S.'s small business community, accelerating the Department's acquisition process, to rapidly prototype and demonstrate these critical science and technology capabilities for integration into AF systems. This energizes the Nation's small business community and increases the industrial base to meet the emerging challenges of incorporating revolutionary technologies like artificial intelligence/machine learning, quantum, cyber, advanced communications/networks, advanced propulsion, directed energy, training systems, etc. This program element included all necessary expenses required to manage, execute, and deliver weapon system capability. The use of such program funds would be in addition to the civilian pay expenses budgeted in program elements 0605829F, 0605831F, 0605833F, and 0605898F. This effort is in Budget Activity 4, Advanced Component Development and Prototypes (ACD&P), because efforts are necessary to evaluate integrated technologies, representative modes or prototype systems in a high fidelity and realistic operating environment.
