The program office is developing and prototyping the Resilient Missile Warning Tracking (MWT) MEO (Project 657MEO) for Guardians across Missile Warning and Missile Tracking (MW/MT) mission area. As a result, the Service will advance space-based technology associated with Golden Dome, and deter, neutralize, defeat and/or destroy counterspace threats and defend the homeland. A new class of threat requires a new class of architecture. Since legacy systems alone cannot maintain custody of advanced, dim and maneuverable missile threats, Resilient MWT delivers a multi-orbit architecture designed to defeat new threats, support homeland defense, Combatant Command operations and the broader missile defense kill chain. The United States Space Force Space Systems Command and Space Development Agency are collaborating to deliver Overhead Persistent Infrared capabilities, in concert with Department of War and Intelligence Community partners, to support a proliferated space architecture that is resilient by design and capable of operating through contested environments. Resilient Missile Warning and Tracking - Medium Earth Orbit space and ground efforts pivot the Department of the Air Force's legacy missile warning force design to a more resilient multi-orbit approach to counter advanced missiles, hypersonic glide vehicles, and fractional orbital bombardment threats. Resilient Missile Warning and Tracking Medium Earth Orbit was originally anchored in Missile Warning and Missile Defense Capability Development Document requirements validated by the Joint Requirements Oversight Council; there is now a Joint Requirement Oversight Council-approved Capability Development Document Annex with very specific Medium Earth Orbit and Low Earth Orbit requirements. Constellation resiliency is foundational to the Department of the Air Force's Resilient Missile Warning and Tracking force design, therefore, the Overhead Persistent Infrared Family of Systems, including Missile Warning and Tracking Medium Earth Orbit, is designed to work cohesively to gain and maintain custody of a spectrum of missile threats. This program falls within the Missile Warning and Missile Tracking (MW/MT) mission area which provides the multi-orbit space and ground architecture required to detect and track missiles and hypersonic glide vehicles worldwide.

Mission & acquisition strategy

The program office is developing and prototyping the Resilient Missile Warning Tracking (MWT) MEO (Project 657MEO) for Guardians across Missile Warning and Missile Tracking (MW/MT) mission area. As a result, the Service will advance space-based technology associated with Golden Dome, and deter, neutralize, defeat and/or destroy counterspace threats and defend the homeland. A new class of threat requires a new class of architecture.

The Resilient Missile Warning and Tracking (MWT) Medium Earth Orbit (MEO) Acquisition Strategy features competition in a growing space industrial base to rapidly field resilient capabilities at achievable technology readiness levels. This strategy combines firm fixed price contracting, other transactional authorities and consistent industry touchpoints on iterative Middle Tier of Acquisition (MTA) pathways.
