Mission & acquisition strategy
The CAML mission is to provide elements across all echelons with a mobile, autonomous, optionally manned, versatile cross-domain fires capability and capacity far greater than current formation launcher and resupply capabilities. CAML is a mobile, autonomous, and versatile fires platform capable of launching a diverse range of offensive and defensive munitions across multiple domains. CAML will significantly enhance the Army's ability to penetrate contested environments, neutralize high-value targets, and provide responsive fires support to Combatant Commanders.
The program is pursuing a single Middle Tier of Acquisition for Rapid Prototyping (MTA-RP) pathway with a decision point informed by an operational assessment NLT 4QFY28 to transition to a Middle Tier of Acquisition for Rapid Fielding (MTA-RF) upon successful demonstration of technical maturity. As of February 2026, the program is pursuing a fair and open competition with the intent of awarding up to six Other Transaction Authority for Prototyping (OTAP) award(s) for rapid prototyping. This strategy leverages existing Army munitions and fire control systems while prioritizing but not limited to commercial mobility platforms and autonomy solutions. Additionally, the program will initiate the development of Common Onboard Launcher Electronics (COLE).
