Mission & acquisition strategy
This program element (PE) resources Operational System Development across the Understand, Protect, and Mitigate portfolios. Chemical and Biological Defense Program (CBDP) investments provide an integrated, layered capability to enable Department of War (DoW) missions in a chemical and biological environment, ranging from combat operations to domestic incident prevention and response. The Projects in this PE support the upgrade of systems that have been fielded or have received approval for full-rate production in order to maintain Joint Force readiness. Individual Projects include: - Understand (UN7): Modernization and ongoing engineering of software and information systems.
Chemical Biological Radiological Nuclear Support to Command and Control (CSC2) The acquisition strategy uses a capability portfolio management approach to drive development, engineering, and modernization of Integrated Early Warning (IEW). CSC2 employs a System of Systems methodology to iteratively enhance capabilities while maintaining existing MOD CBRN IS systems for cybersecurity and bug fixes until replaced. New modular and interoperable CSC2 products will enhance CBRN situational awareness and integrate into a Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) pipeline, ensuring operational relevance and adaptability to mission needs.
